The entire zone is a level 85 area and has a handful of unique and champion monster packs. Most people stick to only farming the Chaos Sanctuary, but the River of Flame is also a very solid spot for farming. This is a level 85 zone, and can be ran efficiently on all classes. There are two levels of The Pits and between them you’ll find 8 to 11 champion or unique monster packs. Monsters in here can be spawned with cold, fire, or lightning immune but they’re very low hitpoints and easy-to-kill monsters (so your mercenary shouldn’t have a problem taking them out). The Pits will always be at the end of the road. The easiest way to get there is by taking the Outer Cloister and follow the road backwards until you reach the fork. The Pits are found in the Tamoe Highland in Act 1. Pro tips: when searching for the leg, always find the road in Stony Field and follow it as the portal always spawns next to the road. Any class can farm cows, but the best ones for it are any with heavy AOE damage. They’re high density, have no immunities, are melee only, and can be killed with minimal gear. When fighting these animals, do not run wildly as that will gather more groups of Hell Bovines into a huge mob. While the area level is only 81, The Secret Cow level is arguably one of the best spots to farm runes and a handful of good items. Hell Bovines are burdened with slow foot speed, but they hit quite hard, and mass in huge herds, making them potentially dangerous to melee characters or ranged attackers who are not careful to maintain their distance. Hell Bovines are only found in the Secret Cow Level in Diablo II, accessible only after finishing the game on Normal difficulty and transmuting together a Tome of Town Portal and Wirt's Leg in the Horadric Cube, inside the Rogue Encampment. Armed with vicious halberds, they lay in wait just on the other side of a secret portal that was opened with the "help" of their first victim. Given sentience by Diablo and driven mad by the incessant prodding they suffered at the hands of the heroes that swarmed to Tristram, these hell-spawned bovines sought to destroy those who abused them when they were docile and defenseless.
